Coffea (code: COFF0000)
coffee (en), kopi (id)
- Family: Rubiaceae
- Uses: food
- Morphology: Leaves opposite, broadly elliptical. With pointed interpetiolar stipule. Generic Rubiaceae appearence.
- Morphotype notes: Comparing images on iNaturalist and elsewhere, I have been unable to reliably find features visible in photographs of sterile plants that separate C. arabica from C. canephora ("robusta"). The leaves of the former appear to have fewer veins than the latter, but.. It seems better to lump both taxa into a generic class. It is likely that coffee plants will appear in Treetracker images from both uplands and lowlands. 2021-11-25. Pers. comm. from Aaron Davis @ Kew (via Alexandre Monro): Coffea arabica: leaf 6–22 × 3.5–8.5 cm, veins 6–14 pairs; Coffea canephora: leaf 12–35 × 5–12 cm, veins 10–16 pairs. .. So, having veins 6-8 might be a reliable character for C. arabica. More than that and it could be either.
